July 3, Sunday - Mt. Tabor Reservoir History Walk

Part of the FREE FMTP Urban Nature Series, 2 pm–4 pm - We will walk to the Mt. Tabor Reservoirs and point out the key features and talk about the history of the reservoirs. Old photographs of the reservoir construction will accompany the talk. The system for bringing water to Portland neighborhoods will be covered. Register here.

July 10, Sunday - Volcanic History Walk

Part of the FREE FMTP Urban Nature Series, 2 pm–4 pm - Why there are RIVER ROCKS at the top of Mt Tabor, a volcano? Portland is one of only three cities in the United States that has a volcano within its city limits. Do you worry that it might come back to life? Find out the answers to these and other questions you and others may have when we talk about the geological features of Mt Tabor Park. Register here.

Thursday, July 14 - Mt. Tabor Summer Concert

6:30 p.m. (arrive early for better parking and seating) We're excited to welcome Grupo Masato, who bring highly danceable music combining Cumbia with Afro-Peruvian sounds. Food vendors and activities for kids will also be on-site.

July 17, Sunday - Native Plants Walk

Part of the FREE FMTP Urban Nature Series, 2 pm–4 pm - Get to know some of the Pacific Northwest native plants you see in Mt. Tabor Park. We’ll take a walk to look at plants that are just emerging in early spring, and talk about some of the restoration efforts we’re using to help improve the ecological health of the park. July 24, Sunday - Biology and Cultural History of Trees

Part of the FREE FMTP Urban Nature Series, 2 pm–4 pm - We'll walk to several areas in the park and talk about the general biological characteristics of park trees and their cultural history. Trees have been used for a variety of purposes including food, medicine, construction, and beautification. They've also been the source of major conservation issues and restoration programs. Meet at the Visitor Center by the main parking lot at 8:50am. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. We supply gloves, tools and plant ID help. Projects include pulling ivy, digging out blackberry and mulching. Register here.

July 31 Sunday - Ivy Basket Making Workshop

Part of the FREE FMTP Urban Nature Series, 2 pm–4 pm - We'll turn ivy and other invasive plants into something unique using simple basket making techniques.  We'll be gathering materials so please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get a bit muddy. August 20, Saturday - PDX Adult Soapbox Derby

This popular Portland event is BAAACK! Spend the day cheering for homemade race cars and enjoying food and beverages from local vendors. Note: This popular annual event draws upwards of 5,000 spectators to the park. As usual, all dogs MUST be leashed while in the park. Visit the PDX Adult Soap Box Derby web site for more details.
